Senior Data Scientist @ Amazon

"I mentored Miles at Springboard and he was one of the brightest students that I’ve had. He learns quickly and adapts equally well when challenged for a solution. It’s commendable the way he built his Data Science skills despite coming from a non-statistical background. Couple that with the professional level presentation skills he brings to the table, he can be an asset to any data-centric organization. I can vouch for his abilities and I am sure whoever hires him will echo the same sentiment. So prospective recruiters, wait no more to consider him for any Data Science vacancy."

"Excellent job with the coding and the PowerPoint presentation! The PowerPoint slides are exceptional, sequenced very well and communicated the information visually. The Matplotlib plots are neat with proper title, x-label and y-label defined. It's great to see that you explored the commands like "ax.text" for showing the value on the bar-plot. The hypothesis test results are correct and the final recommendation is accurate. The "recommended future studies" are very good and well thought out. Awesome work! KEEP IT UP!!"

COMPLETION

Miles submitted everything well before the deadline, was responsive to feedback, and we were able to collaborate on a successful project. He has shown good progress in terms of reporting, code writing skills, and presentation.

PRESENTATION

The report and slide deck were clear and there is proper flow to it. The deck is intended for a non technical audience and can definitely fit the purpose. He has always wowed me with his presentation and execution skills. He has demonstrated professional level skills while executing the project. As a mentor I have learned a lot from his presentation skills. Keep up the great work that you have been doing Miles. I am sure you will go Miles (far) with your work.

UNDERSTANDING AND PROCESS

Miles selected a project that has practical application and could be utilized by his 3D Printing department to address porosity. He managed to choose data sets that were relevant to the problem. He managed to do proper cleaning, wrangling, feature engineering, EDA of the data, and chose appropriate algorithms to solve the problem with evaluation metrics. The project code can be easily followed.

"I had the pleasure of going to school with Miles. Miles has the unique ability to positively influence everyone he comes into contact with. His work ethic and ability to thoroughly explain concepts in lay terms is second to none. The ability for an engineer to be able to deliver a high quality presentation either to customers or to internal management is critical, and Miles possesses this skill."

"...He is a very hard working student. His work reflects neatness and imagination, as well as accuracy. He interacts well with both his instructors and fellow students. His warm, outgoing personality makes him well-liked by all. His energy level is among the highest of any student I have ever taught in this department.

It is my opinion that these traits of fine scholarship as well as his engaging personal characteristics will serve Miles well in a position of responsibility. His ability to follow directions and finish all tasks assigned to him well certainly carry over to his chosen field.

...

I have the utmost confidence that Miles Craig will continue to be a credit to this institution."

"... As a student he has highly intelligent, hard working and dependable with positive attitudes. He performed all his duties diligently receiving highest score in many assignment and test, ranked the top 5% in all three classes with overall grade of "A". He showed his eagerness for learning by frequently participating in the class discussions, asking intelligent questions both in class and during the office hour visits. He was truly an outstanding student with high level of self motivation and self respect. He was also very pleasant and well mannered.

I have not had the opportunity to observe him in a more technical or research oriented course. However judging him by his performance in the above classes and by his willingness to learn new and more complex theoretical concepts I am certain he would be very strong in the research fields as well.

Based on Mr. Craig Miles academic performance and his desire to succeed, I strongly recommend him for an position or scholarship which will advances his studies. In my opinion he will be an excellent candidate. ..."

"...He showed a keen interest in the class and secured an A- grade. He showed hi ability to understand clearly complex details and physical intuition in solving problems in the class as well as on the tests. I found him to be an intellectual student. He expressed his ideas clearly, which indicated his high level of analytically and practical thinking of engineering (knowledge) problems from formulation to the solution stage. Quick and precise, he has the capacity of solving challenging problems very efficiently. I believe he has all the making of an excellent engineering, and I would strongly recommend him."

Lecturer @ Cal Poly Pomona

"...Miles instantly stood out. On his first exam he got 100%! I noticed Miles to be a very bright person. He came to class all the time, asked questions during lecture, and contributed to a very pleasant classroom environment. He continued getting very high marks throughout the course and received an A for the course. Miles works hard, asks questions, and follows through until he accomplishes his goals. I am very proud of him and I know he will continue with this very successful pattern.

Miles and I have continued to have a dialogue even after the course ended. He let me in on his courses and I continued to provided some advice and recommendations. I have complete confidence in his abilities. It is my strong feelings that Miles is talented, highly motivated, and extremely competent who will become a remarkable engineer. He is truly an asset for any firm. I assure you will not be disappointed with his performance. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions."

"I am delighted to have this opportunity to write a letter of recommendation for Mr. Miles Craig. I came to know Mr. Craig during the fall quarter of 2009. He stood out in my Calculus 1 class not merely because he often had the highest grade in quizzes and test; his curiosity and enthusiasm showed when he was able to answer a challenged homework question. His in depth thinking with a good verbal communication was demonstrated by our question and answer discussion. He is a motivated, hard-working, and dynamic student.

Knowing his academic ability and persistence, I am confident that he will be successful, with outstanding performance, in pursuing his degree in higher education. Mr. Craig can broaden his knowledge and extend his full potential in engineering from the opportunity of working for your company. ..."
